There’s just something emotionally confusing about rooting for someone for a few years and then being shut out of a multi-night run at a 1600 person venue after tickets have only been on sale for merely minutes. The album is a collection of traditional, country and bluegrass music from George Jones, Doc Watson, Hank Thompson, A.P. Carter, and others. The same day as the album was announced, "Long Journey Home"/"Life to Go" was released as a two-song single. Barber takes the lead vocal on the Jones-written song "Life to Go." Home is the fourth studio album by American bluegrass musician Billy Strings, following Turmoil & Tinfoil and preceding Renewal. Released on September 27, 2019, the album stayed on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart for 77 weeks, peaking at number one and being the first studio album by Billy Strings to do so.
For simplification and to avoid errors, each award in this list has been presumed to have had a prior nomination. In February 2017, Billy was named one of the six new rising stars of bluegrass by Acoustic Guitar magazine. He also collaborated with Molly Tuttle on the songs "Sittin' on Top of the World" and "Billy in the Lowground." On Dec. 30, he will return to the United States with two nights at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Dec. 30 and 31. The newly announced leg of Strings’ tour kicks off on April 13 at Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi. Strings will make stops in San Diego, Las Vegas, Cleveland and more before wrapping up on June 17 at the Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago. Billy Strings was born William Lee Apostol on October 3, 1992, in Lansing, Michigan. His father died of a heroin overdose when he was two and his mother remarried Terry Barber, an accomplished amateur bluegrass musician. The family moved to Morehead, Kentucky, then to Muir, Michigan.

While he was still a pre-teen his parents became addicted to methamphetamine. He left the family home at the age of thirteen and himself went through a period of hard-drug usage. His family eventually achieved sobriety; Billy stopped using hard drugs and drinking alcohol.
Powerfully emotional and beautifully designed songs like “Must Be Seven” and “Enough To Leave” give this album meaning while tripped out explorations like “Guitar Peace” and the deep-rooted sounding traditionals like “Hollow Heart” and “Freedom” make it complete. With Home, the bluegrass and jam communities are given yet another staggering volume of great material that will undoubtedly be transformed into seriously outlandish live journeys by a 27-year-old guy from Lansing, Michigan. The title track of the album, “Home,” completely abandons any sort of bluegrass acoustic mold. With added string players, percussion, and all sorts of kaleidoscopic effects, it sounds as if an aging Dewey Cox took a crack at producing Bela Fleck’s Tales From The Acoustic Planet. That’s not to downplay it in the slightest bit, as it is certainly a powerful and poignant piece of music that I can’t wait to see how they bring to life in the live setting.
Strings has appeared on famous PBS musical TV programs Austin City Limits and Bluegrass Underground. He has toured with Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon, I'm With Her, Cabinet and others. A song that’s already taken flight in the live performance setting as a 10+ minute departure, “Away from the Mire,” portrays a deep cutting tear in the fabric of a relationship between two people who were once incredibly close. From the lyrics, we gain a sense of not only the intensity of how a friend’s actions can linger inside our minds, but also the understanding that the pursuit of hanging onto that anger will be meaningless in the end.
The album was titled Home simply for the fact that Strings was starting to "feel at home" in his Nashville residence and in the music industry at the time of the album's release. Billy Strings has unveiled next spring’s tour routing, and the 22 newly announced dates see the singer/songwriter making several arena appearances. Strings will take the stage in Alabama’s Mobile Civic Center for two nights, Austin’s Moody Center for two nights and more.
